Twilight

First of all, I loved this movie. I thought it was amazing. And I’d also like to point out that I’m merely glazing over things. I have way more opinion than is in this. But I saw the movie late at night and I don’t exactly remember everything that I liked or didn’t like. I also already vented about all of this to my mother :) Also this does not sum the movie up at all. Go see it :)

Adaptation
No. It’s not like the book. Yes, there are changes. Does it have the same feel as the book? Yes. It really does. When Bella left Charlie in the movie I had the same feelings as I did when she did in the book. In fact the only change that irked me was the way she found out about the Cullens being vampires. Something about a book? I do not remember her buying a book to help her out in the book. And her conversation with Jacob was far too short. Also they really butchered the meadow scene – it was just kind of overdramatic and bizarre. But before and after that everything was pretty spot on and good. There are several direct quotes from the book (They left out “I dazzle you?” “Frequently.”). Also Bella actually meets Jacob before La Push in the movie, but that was alright. It really was it didn’t change anything. All in all, it was a very neatly done adaptation as far as I could tell. Some will hate it for its changes and I really would discourage that. Because I loved it. Just give it a chance. Because it’s really a brilliant movie. At the very least they didn’t ruin it. At all.

Characters
They got the majority of them just right. I was iffy about the actors/actresses portraying them but it was just fantastic. Alice, Rosalie, and Carlisle were spot on. Jessica was perfect too. I didn’t really like Jacob with long hair, aha. I just didn’t picture him with long hair I suppose. But other than that Taylor was wonderful :) And whoa, were the kids with him at La Push Quil and Embry? Because that is not how I pictured them at all. Uhm.. I actually liked Movie Bella better than Book Bella, haha. I dunno why, I just do – maybe it was the whole not being in her head thing :) Mike Newton was spot on too – he was just so real. I didn’t like Tyler. Uhm, yeah. So, Edward. I have mixed feelings about him, I really do. I liked that Rob put in that internal struggle with him – like I loved how you could really see it and could really tell that it was painful for him to be around her. My Edward is a bit more witty though, if you know what I mean. Like Rob didn’t play him near as funny – although yeah. I don’t know. Like I said, mixed feelings. But I liked him for the most part :) I forgot Charlie! Haha! I had my doubts about Billy Burke, but gosh. He was perfect. Charlie has the funniest part (“Bella, do you have your pepper spray?”) of the entire movie. And the movie just gave him so much more depth it was great.

Pacing
It goes fast/slow. Which is actually, just like the book now that I think of it. Uhm. It was really bizarre because they go from Bella and Edward just getting to know each other and stuff to BAM “We’re going to play baseball” ? But it was alright. It was just that one bit that bothered me. After that it went pretty fast. So it starts out slow and then all of a sudden it’s just zooming through to the end. And then it slows down a bit after Bella’s at the hospital.

Favorite Scene
My favorite scene would have to be the baseball scene. It was just awesome – exactly how I pictured it. And Muse in the background? Genius. That was my Twilight. I can’t say enough about it, it was just so cool. I also liked Bella’s talk with Jacob at the very end – not because I love Jacob – but because it was very true to the book. They weren’t dancing, no, but it was perfect to me. And the foreshadowing directly following that with Edward’s line “I leave you alone for two seconds and the wolves move in” was perfect.

Foreshadowing
Oh my gosh this was my favorite part. They foreshadowed New Moon so well it was just incredible. Seriously. “The Cullens don’t come here.” “I leave you alone for two seconds and the wolves move in.” Victoria watching them at the very end. It was all just incredible. “You can’t say those things to me!” (about Edward leaving). It was just, I don’t know but it was the best thing about the entire movie. I cannot wait for New Moon. They even give you a glimpse of how absolutely heartbroken Bella is going to be (the scene at the hospital). It was just great.

Etc.
Edward sparkling in the sun? Whoa. No. That was the one thing that was just downright wrong. He was like, reflecting the sun? That was not how I imagined it at all. I imagined it more of him like shining or something not…reflecting. It just wasn’t right. Also the editing? Fabulous. I loved how they did the credits. And the camera angles were so unique and funky - it was so cool :)
